Orange County’s strong university system has helped contribute to the fact that 37% of residents over the age of 25 have a bachelor’s degree or higher, ranking Orange County as one of the top five regions in the nation when it comes to college-educated residents.
University of California, Irvine
University of California, Irvine (UCI), a public research university founded in 1965, is located in Irvine, California with a total enrollment of 28,184 and undergraduate enrollment of 22,004. It ranks 44th nationwide in the 2013 U.S. News and World Report of top National Universities and 12th among the nation’s top public universities.
As the 4th most selective University of California campus, UCI is recognized for its nationally ranked UC Irvine Medical Center and graduate programs including the Paul Merage School of Business and the Henry Samueli School of Engineering. The Times Higher Education in 2013 ranked UCI 5th among global universities under 50 years old, and 1st among U.S. universities under 50 years old.
The Merage School of Business ranks 49th in Best Business Schools by the U.S. News and World Report, with a total enrollment of 215 full-time and 422 part-time MBA students. With 69.4% of its full-time students employed after graduation, it ranks No. 1 in the U.S. for employment of MBA students by the Financial Times. The Wall Street Journal ranks Paul Merage 4th in the nation for information technology, while Financial Times ranks it 26th for its full-time MBA program.
The school offers full-time, executive MBA, part-time MBA, healthcare executive MBA, and Ph.D. program and a wide range of concentrations. Within the Merage School of Business are the Centers of Excellence, including the Don Beall Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which plays a major role in helping to foster Orange County’s vibrant entrepreneurial climate.
California State University, Fullerton
California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), founded in 1957, is a public university located in Fullerton, CA with a total enrollment of 37,677 and an undergraduate enrollment of 32,328. As the largest school in the California State University system and the second largest university in California, CSUF ranked 31st in the 2013 U.S. News and World Report among top Regional Universities (West). CSUF is nationally recognized for its graduate programs, most notably the Nursing-Anesthesia program, ranked No. 22 by the U.S. News and World Report. Contributing over $1 billion to the California and local Orange County economy, CSUF sustains nearly 9,000 jobs in the state of California.
The Mihaylo College of Business and Economics at CSUF is the largest accredited business school in California, and second largest accredited undergraduate business school in the country. The Mihaylo College of Business and Economics also provides Centers of Excellence to support the business community and serve local business and government sectors. The Small Business Institute of CSUF, recognizing the importance of developing entrepreneurship since 1974, has been awarded the National Undergraduate Case of the Year Award from the Small Business Institute Director’s Association. Most notably, Mihaylo’s Center for Entrepreneurship provides an outreach center for students to access entrepreneurial opportunities in the field and connect with its board, staff, donors, present and past clients.
Founded in 1861, Chapman University is a private university located in Orange, California with a total enrollment of 7,155 and an undergraduate population of 5,300. Chapman ranks sixth in the U.S. News and World Report of the Best Regional Universities (West). Chapman consists of seven schools, which are the Argyros School of Business and Economics, College of Educational Studies, Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Law, College of Performing Arts, and Schmid College of Science and Technology. Chapman University is nationally recognized for its School of Law, which has been ranked in the top 150 Best Law Schools in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.
The Chapman University Argyros School of Business and Economics has been ranked No. 46 nationwide by Bloomberg BusinessWeek. Chapman School of Business offers undergraduate and graduate MBA programs, ranking 10th for undergraduate and 9th for graduate entrepreneurship programs in the U.S. by the Princeton Review. Chapman holds a number of leading research centers for real estate, finance and economics. Chapman’s Ralph W. Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics propels entrepreneurial success by collaborating with students, alumni, investors, and inventors through research, education, and innovative programs and events.
Brandman University, established in 1958 as a separate accredited university within the Chapman University System, is a private university that offers high quality education for nontraditional working adult students. It has a total enrollment of approximately 13,000 students and offers over 200 degree, certificate, credential and professional programs. Located in Irvine, California, the university also has twenty-six campuses across California and Washington States, six military bases, and a virtual online campus.
Brandman University was been named No. 8 in the 2013 Best Online Undergraduate Programs by U.S. News and World Report, and is the only California institution ranked in the Top Ten, surpassing all privates and public schools in California. Brandman’s online student services ranked No. 12 out of over 200 schools by the U.S. News and World Report.
Brandman’s Business School is nationally recognized for its online business program and was ranked third in California and No. 11 for student services by the U.S. News and World Report. With degree programs for undergraduate and graduate students, the Brandman online business program is the only institution in California to be named on the Honor Roll for Top Online Education Programs by U.S. News. Brandman also offers the Premier Partnership Program as a MBA scholarship program to enhance education and economic well-being in the local community. Participating organizations in the Premier Partnership Program, including ABM Engineering Services, Allergan, Inc., Cox Communications, Kia Motors American, Inc, and other businesses, allows students to apply the practice-oriented curriculum through real-life instruction and business experience.
Concordia University is a private liberal arts university located in Irvine, California founded in 1972 with a total enrollment of 3,251 students and undergraduate enrollment of 1,416 students. Concordia has been ranked No. 66 in Best Colleges in Regional Universities (West) by U.S. News and World Report and recognized as a “Top Tier” school in Regional Universities (West) of Best Colleges by the U.S. News Media Group.
Concordia offers undergraduate, graduate and adult degree programs with over 30 undergraduate and graduate major programs and 50 specializations. The most popular majors at Concordia respectively are Business Administration and Management, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Registered Nursing, and Communications. The newly implemented Core Curriculum at Concordia University for underclassmen recently ranked No. 20 out of over 1,000 universities nationwide, placing the curriculum above numerous elite universities, including Harvard, Westmont, and the University of California, Irvine.
Concordia University School of Business and Professional Studies offers undergraduate, adult and graduate MBA student programs. With six areas of specialization, the undergraduate business program is one of the largest majors offered at Concordia.
Vanguard University of Southern California
Vanguard University of Southern California, established in 1920, is a private university of liberal arts and professional studies located in Costa Mesa, California. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 1,954 students and ranks No. 10 in Best Regional Colleges (West) by U.S. News and World Report. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and was ranked by The Princeton Review a “Best in the West” College in 2012 and by Forbes magazine in their 2013 list of “America’s Best Colleges”.
Vanguard University offers over 30 areas of undergraduate and graduate majors and concentrations in education, leadership studies, nursing, theology, and clinical psychology. Vanguard’s Department of Business and Management offers four majors in accounting, marketing, business administration, and international business.
Offered through the Department of Business is Enactus, a business outreach program that allows students to focus on the community by applying business skills learned in the classroom to real-life business situations.
